Metropolitan police virus

Yet another scam I'm afraid. A page appears on your computer from the Metropolitan Police e-crime Unit claiming you visited an illegal website, your computer has been locked and you need to pay ukash £100 to unlock it.
A nasty virus this. I couldn't get into the computer even in safe mode to run a virus scan, so had to reomove the hard drive to another computer and run a scan from there. Removed the virus Ok, but it had infected some windows system files which had to be replaced manually. Call me if you need help.

HDD Low

HDD Low is malicious software, do not install it. Its FAKE and does nothing but try to scam money out of you and steal your credit card details.
If you have installed it, download and run MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, this will completely remove HDD Low and return your computer to normal operation.
If you can't do anything on the computer because of HDD Low, press Ctrl Alt Del, right click on HDD Low, go to process and then End process.

Dell flashing cursor

Fault - Had a Dell Inspiron 530 in today, that would display the Dell starup screen, but then stop with a flashing cursor in the top left of the screen. Pressing F2 or F12 on startup led to the same flashing cursor.
Repair - one of the ram chips was faulty, replaced and all worked Ok again.

NDIS.SYS error blue screen of death

After uninstalling Norton 360 from an Acer laptop it started displaying a blue screen on windows XP startup with an NDIS.SYS error.
Neither System Restore or Norton Removal Tool would fix it.
The problem turned out to be the driver for the builtin Atheros wireless adapter. I managed to disable the adapter after starting up in Safe Mode (F8 on startup, then control panel, system, hardware tab, device manager) and it started up Ok.
Next, using another PC, I downloaded the latest driver, copied it over to the Acer on a memory stick, enabled the wireless adapter, updated the driver, and all was Ok again.

A disk read error has occurred

A disk read error has occurred - one morning you turn your computer on and all you get is this message, this is how I fixed it. There are 1,000's of messages on the net about this problem, this is the only one that worked for me. I tried all the chkdsk, fixmbr, drive jumpers, IDE cable, bios reset cures and none worked. Luckily I had Ghost 2003, which I used to copy the faulty drive to another same size drive, inserted in the computer as a slave drive. When the copy is finished, shutdown, remove the original drive, make the new drive master and hey presto, everything worked as normal, same desktop, docs etc. etc. all back again. Why does this work ?, something to do with the Ghost copy fixes the problem. Good luck. Tip, make sure you copy from the faulty drive to the new drive, otherwise you lose everything !
Disk read error - fix number two, get your hands on a USB to IDE adapter, plug in your problem drive and run the windows disk defragmenter. Don't ask me why it works, it just does.
Disk read error - fix number three, same as above but plug the problem drive into another computer as a slave drive and run disk defragmenter.
Disk read error - fix number four, download Ultimate Boot CD for Windows and burn it to a CD. Boot your problem computer with this CD, and run Disk Defragmenter from the CD. Problem solved without having to dismantle anything!
